Els puts pressure on Ohio leaders

Ernie Els proved he is still ready to compete with the very best, as he carded an impressive six-under-par 66 in the opening round at the Memorial tournament in Ohio yesterday, putting pressure on a leading pack of three.

Els’ recent form has been poor but he showed signs of life to move within one stroke of leaders Sean O’Hair, Rod Pampling and Nick O’Hern in ideal, if humid, conditions at Muirfield Village.
