Johnson snatches Classic win

US Masters champion Zach Johnson beat Japan’s Ryuji Imada in a sudden-death play-off to claim victory in the AT&T Classic at Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia.

The 31-year-old birdied the first extra hole, the 18th, to take the title after third-round leader Imada had found the water.

Johnson, whose two previous titles – including the Masters – have come in Georgia, forced a play-off after storming into contention on the final day.

Johnson shot a five-under-par 67 to move to 15 under while Imada, who was two under for the day, needed to birdie the final hole to stay in contention.

His chance for victory came when Imada fired his second shot on the par-five 18th into the water hazard in front of the green.

Camilo Villegas, Matt Kuchar and Troy Matteson tied for third at 12-under.
