Bangor Academy wins All-Ireland Schools Girls’ Championship
Bangor Academy’s Victoria Bradshaw and Sarah Louise Winter won the All-Ireland Schools Girls’ Golf Championships at Milltown Golf Club today.
Bangor Academy led from the very start with Bradshaw turning one under par at the 9th.
However, a couple of wayward tee shots on the back nine saw her encounter tree trouble and her final three-over-par 76 earned her the Mary Nowlan Trophy for returning the best round of the day.
Nearest challengers St. Flannan’s College were just four strokes behind with girls’ international Sarah Cunningham carding a brave 79.
Dundalk Grammar School’s Carla Reynold’s looked best to challenge the leaders when she turned level par, but three double bogeys on the inward stretch cost her dearly in her round of 79.
Milltown’s testing par 73 ladies course, which proved a stiff challenge for the five pairs of District winners, will also play host to the Suzuki Ladies Senior Cup Finals next September – another ILGU tournament in the club’s busy year of centenary celebrations.
