Verplank goes two clear
Scott Verplank charged into the lead halfway through the third round at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship today.
Verplank picked up four front-nine birdies to go nine under par at the turn in ideal conditions at the Four Seasons TPC.
The Dallas-born 42-year-old was two shots clear of Michael Allen (13 holes), Fredrik Jacobson (nine holes) and halfway leader Luke Donald (nine holes).
Ian Poulter was the clubhouse leader after shooting an impressive 65 for six-under 204, while Phil Mickelson was one shot further back after a 66.
Verplank has only missed the tournament once since his debut in 1986.
He has never won, his closest call being second place in 2001.
