Radisson-SAS West of Ireland Amateur Championship

Galway's Joe Lyons and Portstewart's Paul Cutler will meet in this afternoon's final of the Radisson-SAS West of Ireland Championship at Rosses Point.

Lyons beat South of Ireland champion and leading qualifier Simon Ward by two and one in his semi-final thanks to a 40-foot par putt at the 17th.

But the real drama came in the clash between Cutler and Strandhill's Tommy McGowan - with Cutler winning a sensational match on the 20th.

McGowan was four up after nine holes but Cutler won the 11th in par and birdied the 13th, 14th and 15th from long range before chipping in from 25 yards for another birdie at the 17th to go one up.

McGowan birdied the 18th to force extra holes but a bogey at the 20th ended his bid to become the first Sligo winner of the title since Cecil Ewing in 1950.

Semi-finals:

Paul Cutler (Portstewart) beat Tommy McGowan (Strandhill) 20th; Joe Lyons (Galway) bt Simon Ward (Co Louth) 2/1.

Final:

(1.30 pm ) Paul Cutler v Joe Lyons.
