There was nothing unusual in seeing Colin Montgomerie miss the halfway cut at the Masters last night. But there certainly was in witnessing Ernie Els make an early exit as well.

Montgomerie’s 76-77 to miss by one on nine over – he failed to get up and down from a bunker on the 18th – means he has failed to survive the cut in all three majors since he double-bogeyed the last to lose the US Open last June.
