Stenson moves to fifth in rankings

Henrik Stenson is up from eighth to fifth in the world after his Accenture World Match Play victory – and that makes him the highest-placed Swede in the 21-year history of the rankings.

Jesper Parnevik occupied seventh spot in 2000 but Stenson now trails only Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott.

The 30-year-old followed up his Dubai Desert Classic win over Ernie Els and Woods by overcoming Zach Johnson, KJ Choi, Aaron Baddeley, Nick O’Hern, Trevor Immelman and then defending champion Geoff Ogilvy in the final in Tucson.

Ogilvy rises to seventh in the rankings, pushing Luke Donald down to 10th and Padraig Harrington to 11th, while quarter-finalist Justin Rose should now be sure of a return to the Masters in April after improving from 43rd to 36th. He needs to be in the top 50 the week before Augusta.
