Five-time Open winner Tom Watson is to miss July’s championship at Carnoustie - only the third time he will not have played since he won there on his debut in 1975.

The 57-year-old, a superb 19th in the Pebble Beach Pro-am on Sunday, will be walking his daughter Meg down the aisle instead.
