Greg Owen was in danger of missing the cut in the FBR Open in Scottsdale, Arizona after he failed to make up for a one-over-par round on the opening day.

Owen was even for the day after three holes and was struggling to make the expected cut of one under par, with Justin Rose on the edge at one under after his first-day round.

Brian Davis looked far more comfortable as he was three under after rounds of 70 and 69.

Early starter Jeff Quinney took control at the TPC of Scottsdale to pull away from first-round leader Dudley Hart who fired a seven-under-par 64 on Thursday.

Quinney, who was five under in the first round, had moved to 10 under and Robert Garrigus was a stroke behind after going four under for his second round.

Bubba Watson, John Rollins and Brett Quigley were all tied for third place, two strokes behind leader Quinney.

Quinney began his round on the back nine and started with two birdies.

He added birdies on his fifth and seventh holes for a front nine of 32 and then picked up two shots through the next three holes.

Hart was due to start his second round with play being held up 40 minutes due to frost on the course.
