Casey ace voted Shot of the Year

Ryder Cup star Paul Casey’s hole-in-one at The K Club in September has been voted the RBS Shot of the Year.

The 29-year-old, playing with fellow Englishman David Howell, holed a four iron from 213 yards at the 14th to beat Stewart Cink and Zach Johnson 5&4 during their Saturday fourball match.

It was the first time anyone had aced a hole to close out a Ryder Cup match and was the first hole-in-one in the event since Howard Clark’s at Oak Hill in 1995.

“It was my first hole-in-one in a professional tournament and to achieve it in a Ryder Cup was an unbelievable experience,” said Casey, who last week was named European Tour Golfer of the Year.

“I feel very privileged to win the RBS Shot of the Year. There were so many great shots played during the season and I feel very lucky that mine has been voted the best of them. It is a very, very special award.”

Casey wins the RBS Shot of the Year Trophy and £2,000 to donate to a charity of his choice.
