Coughlan just four off the lead in Spain

Cork's Claire Coughlan added a level par 72 to her opening 71 to lie four shots off the lead at the halfway stage of the LET Final Qualifying School at La Cala Resort in Spain.

Finland’s Hanna Leena Solonen is one shot clear of the field on five under par after adding a 69 to her opening 70 while next best is Norway’s Lill Kristin Saether who fired a best of the day five under par 67 in second place.

Coughlan’s incident free round included two birdies and two bogeys and sees her in a strong position - tied seventh at the halfway stage.

Martina Gillen’s hopes of securing her tour card took a severe blow when she covered her inward journey in seven over par having turned at an impressive two under.

Two triple bogeys on 12 and 15 saw her slip to joint 49th place. Hazel Kavanagh improved by two shots on her opening 77 and lied in joint 57th place overnight.

All 95 competitors play the first three rounds before the cut of 50 players (+ ties) contest the final round on Saturday. At the conclusion of 72 holes, the top 25 players will obtain full playing rights for the 2007 Ladies European Tour, while the remaining 25 (+ ties) will secure conditional playing privileges.
