Scott ends PGA Tour title drought

Adam Scott ended a 35-event PGA Tour drought by winning the season-ending Tour Championship by three strokes tonight.

The Australian, who also started the day with a three-shot lead, left nothing to chance after making five birdies in the first 13 holes at East Lake, Atlanta.

The 26-year-old stumbled slightly down the stretch with a late bogey, but a four-under-par 66 easily carried him to his fourth official victory on tour.

He finished at 11-under in all, while Jim Furyk (65) had the day’s best score of 65 to finish second at eight-under overall, a shot ahead of Joe Durant (67).

The victory, worth US$1.17m (€920,321), lifted Scott to third on the final money list behind Tiger Woods and Furyk.

Despite his lofty world number four ranking, Scott had not won on tour since February 2005, and that was an unofficial victory in the 36-hole rain-shortened Nissan Open.

He missed the cut last week, but turned his game around on the range with coach Butch Harmon on Tuesday, a move that has reaped instant rewards.
