Monty picks Casey and Canizares

Ryder Cup star Paul Casey and European Tour rookie Alejandro Canizares are captain Colin Montgomerie’s latest selections for next month’s inaugural Goodwill Trophy in China.

The new competition, to be held at Mission Hills this year, pits a combined European and USA side against an international team made up of players from the rest of the world.

International captain Retief Goosen’s two latest picks are South Korean KJ Choi and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee.

Casey, currently leading the European Tour Order of Merit heading into the last event at Valderrama this week, won the HSBC World Match Play at Wentworth last month while Canizares, son of Jose Maria, won only his third European Tour event – the Russian Open in August.

The pair join England’s Luke Donald, the USA’s Chris DiMarco and Sweden’s Henrik Stenson in the team, while already selected for the International team are New Zealand’s Michael Campbell and China’s Lian Wei Zhang.

The Goodwill Trophy will be played on November 13 and 14 .
