Jim Furyk and Adam Scott have reached their highest-ever positions in the world rankings following victories this weekend.

Furyk, expected to partner Tiger Woods in next week’s Ryder Cup, has leap-frogged over Phil Mickelson into the number two spot after winning the Canadian Open, while Scott’s play-off success over Ernie Els in the Singapore Open takes him to fifth.

Woods, Furyk and Scott are all in action this week in the HSBC World Match Play Championship at Wentworth, where’s golf’s biggest first prize of £1m (€1.5m) is on offer.

The event boasts six of the world’s top 10 – Retief Goosen, six-time winner Els and Luke Donald are the others – and nine of the leading 20.
