Ladies Championships enter final stages

The cream of Irish ladies’ golfing talent from across the Northern and Eastern districts will this week battle it out in the last regional finals of the inaugural AA Insurance Ladies Championships.

An intense three days of competition gets underway with the Northern district foursomes finals on Saturday, followed by the singles competition finals and Eastern district finals held on Sunday and Monday. All clubs will be hopeful of securing a place in the national finals at Headfort Golf Club in October.

In the Northern district, Antrim will be the county most hopeful of silverware for the cabinet, with six clubs in play.

Dunmurry, Shandon Park, Malone, Royal Belfast, Carrickfergus and Cliftonville will all be in contention, with Shandon Park and Royal Belfast particular favourites, both keeping a clean sheet since the start of the competition.

In the Eastern final, Craddockstown will be one of the teams to watch, competing in three competitions: the Singles Junior and Intermediate Cups and the Senior Foursomes.

Their strongest opposition comes from Castle and Malahide Golf Clubs, both of which have enjoyed continued success throughout the Championship and are evenly matched with places in two final competitions: Castle are through in the Senior Foursomes and Singles Challenge Cup, whilst Malahide will be posing a threat in the Singles Junior and Minor Cups.
