Tiger celebrates great escape
A trademark fist pump after a closing eagle putt provided the enduring image of yesterday’s first day of the British Open at Hoylake, but it was not the most significant part of Tiger Woods’ round.
The world number one sank a 25-footer at the 560-yard 18th to leap over a crowd of players on four under and into a share of second place after a 67 – one behind leader Graeme McDowell.
