The opening round of the Bank of America Championship was postponed because of heavy rains in Massachusetts.

The course became unplayable after nearly three inches of rain fell at the Nashawtuc Country Club in the past two days.

The first round now will start on Saturday, with players starting off both the first and 10th holes.

Tournament director Ben Nelson said: “After inspecting the course this morning, our staff have made the determination that it is unplayable and will be that way for the rest of the day.

“There’s quite a bit of standing water out there and no place for the water to go at the present time.

“Our plan is still to have a 54-hole tournament and finish the event late on Sunday afternoon.”
