Colin Montgomerie’s hopes of a first tournament victory in Wales were fading badly in the third round of the Wales Open today.

Montgomerie began the day five shots off the lead held by Sweden’s Robert Karlsson, but had shown during his second-round 66 that a low round was a distinct possibility.
