Rose moves through the field
Five days after a round of 80 in the Wachovia Championship, Justin Rose had a 67 today to move through the field at the Byron Nelson Championship in Texas.
Rose kept a bogey off his card and birdied the second, sixth and 14th holes at the Cottonwood Valley course to improve to two under par. Midway through the day’s play he was up from 54th to joint 19th.
American Brett Wetterich led at eight under and still had six holes to go on the TPC lay-out.
He was one in front of compatriots Joe Ogilvie – home in 29 at Cottonwood for a superb 62 – and Omar Uresti and Australian Adam Scott.
Ernie Els, Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh all stood two under with Rose and both Luke Donald and Brian Davis were one further back.
However, Greg Owen withdrew after three holes of his second round.
Like Sergio Garcia the Mansfield golfer had opened with a five-over 75 to be down near the rear of the field and although he birdied the first on the resumption, two bogeys followed and he told his playing partners he was not going to continue.
