Storms set to disrupt Masters

The Masters resumed on time at Augusta today. But how long play could continue for remained to be seen.

After heavy overnight rain thunderstorms were forecast for the rest of the day and just two shots had been hit in the third round when the umbrellas went up.

Both were played by former US Open champion Jim Furyk, who because of an odd number of qualifiers after the first 36 holes had local Augusta National member Jeff Knox for company and to mark his scorecard.

Knox did not even complete the opening hole after chipping over the green and then failing to make it back up the hill with his next attempt, but Furyk started with a par and then birdied the long second to improve to three over.

Behind him Dane Thomas Bjorn also opened with a four, but American Brandt Jobe was bunkered off the tee and bogeyed.
