Ireland's Gary Murphy is tied for second place after the opening round of the Maybank Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.

Murphy carded a six-under-par opening round of 66 this morning to finish just one shot adrift of early leader Thaworn Wiratchant.

Padraig Harrington carded a 69 and is tied for 16th place on three under par.

Elsewhere, David Higgins was two under par after six holes, while Ulsterman Michael Hoey has yet to tee off.

At the top of the leaderboard, Thailand’s 2005 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Thaworn Wiratchant set the early pace this morning.

The 39-year-old enjoyed eight birdies against just one bogey as he fired a course record equalling seven-under-par 65 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
