Campbell eyes first US Tour win

Chad Campbell remained on course for his first US Tour win in 22 months after nine holes of his fourth round at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in California.

Campbell, joint runner-up behind David Toms in Hawaii last weekend, went into the penultimate day four clear and extended that to five with birdies at the fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth for an outward 32 on the Classic course.

He was 23 under par, with Australian John Senden 18 under and then Scott Verplank one further back.

Twice winner Phil Mickelson was joined in fourth place on 15 under when England’s Justin Rose, round in a superb 64 on Friday, birdied three of his first five holes.

But the 25-year-old missed the green on the short sixth and with a bogey fell nine adrift of Campbell and into a tie for fifth spot in a group which also included German Alex Cejka.
