Lowery leads as Singh misses out

Steve Lowery shot a five-under-par 66 to take a two-shot lead on 134 at the halfway stage of the Chrysler Classic in Florida.

But world number two Vijay Singh missed the cut for the second week running after carding a level-par 71 to leave him on 145 – one over the limit.

Bo Van Pelt shot a bogey-free 65 to finish the day in second place on 136, while Davis Love III (69), Bernhard Langer (69), Tom Pernice (66) and Carl Pettersson (68) are tied for third at five under.

Lowery started the back nine with three consecutive birdies and then added further birdies at the 14th and 16th.

“I got a good start there on 10 and drove it in the fairway a lot on the back nine,” Lowery said. “It’s a great golf course, very tough. If you’re in the fairway, obviously, you can shoot some good scores.

“I’ve started to play a lot better at the end of the year, it’s more fun. I’ve felt a lot more competitive.”

Jeff Brehaut, who started the day with a two-shot lead, struggled to a three-over 74 and is in a group of five tied for 12th at three under.
