Garcia wins in Switzerland
Sergio Garcia won the Omega European Masters – the first event of Europe’s Ryder Cup qualifying race – in Switzerland today.
But it needed a dramatic chip-in on the short 16th after the world number six had seen a four-stroke lead wiped out.
Ryder Cup team-mate Paul Casey and Peter Gustafsson were the pair who caught Garcia, but after his two the Spaniard safely parred the 17th and 18th for a 68 which gave him the title with a 14 under par total of 270.
Casey bogeyed the 16th to slip to third place, while defending champion Luke Donald was one shot further back along with Welshman Garry Houston, whose fourth place equalled his best finish on tour and secured his card for next season.
Ireland's Damien McGrane finished on -8 while Peter Lawrie ended on -4.
