Ulster claim Interprovincial crown

Pre-Championship favourites Ulster captured the Golfsure sponsored Interprovincial

Championship at Co Sligo after a final day victory over title holders Leinster.

Trailing by two and a half matches to one and a half following the morning foursomes

Ulster’s stars shone in the singles with big margin wins for Irish champion Rory McIlroy,

North of Ireland champion Gareth Shaw and former professional Jim Carvill.

McIlroy recorded his first singles win of the Championship when easily accounting for

Brian O’Connor by 6/5 while Carvill defeated Paul O’Hanlon by the same margin.

Shaw, who finished top points scorer in the Championship with six wins from six matches and threw

in a hole in one on the thirteenth hole in Thursday’s singles for good measure, overcame

Aengus McAllister by 5/3.

Darren Crowe halved with Des Morgan, while his brother Stephen defeated Mark Campbell by

4/3 before Connor Doran scored the decisive win by 3/2 over The Island’s David Rawluk.

Host province Connacht defeated Munster by eight matches to five to finish in third spot.
