Sweden's Widmark leads in Moscow
Sweden’s Fredrik Widmark heads the Cadillac Russian Open after a carding his second 67 of the tournament for a 10-under-par total but he leads only by one from compatriot Mikael Lundberg after dropping a shot at his penultimate hole.
Widmark, joint second yesterday, was six under for 12 holes today and leading by two until the 197-yard eighth – he started on the back nine – cost him a shot.
That put him back in touching distance of the challengers, with Lundberg shooting a four-under-par 68 to hold second place.
Calm and sunny weather, contrasting sharply to yesterday’s heavy rain at the Le Meridien Moscow Country Club, meant it was destined to be a day of low scoring and Scotland’s Marc Warren led the way with a 64, the best round of the week.
Former world tennis number one and Sydney Olympic champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov, an eight handicapper, slipped to last place at 40 over after a round of 96.
