Whitehouse takes early lead

England’s Tom Whitehouse surged clear of the field on the opening day of the Cadillac Russian Open in Moscow after shooting seven birdies in 15 holes.

The 25-year-old’s six-under-par score – his one bogey came at the 413-yard sixth – was even more impressive as it was constructed during a constant downpour, which is becoming something of a tradition for this event at the Le Meridien Moscow Country Club.
