Calm start at St Andrews
St Andrews was again in benign mood as the 134th Open championship got underway this morning.
Barely a breath of wind greeted the early starters as Yorkshire’s Simon Dyson struck the opening tee shot on the Old Course.
Dyson, who had missed the cut in his previous three Open appearances, safely found the generous fairway shared with the 18th hole, as did playing partners Rory Sabbatini and former winner Mark Calcavecchia – who missed the cut in the defence of his title here in 1990.
