Padraig Harrington has risen three places to eighth in the world rankings after his dramatic victory at the Westchester Country Club in the Barclays Classic.

The Dubliner and America’s Jim Furyk began the par-five 18th level on eight under for the tournament yesterday.

Furyk played a conventional route of laying up and relying on a pitch and a putt for birdie, but Harrington eclipsed that by getting on the green in two and then firing in a 60-foot putt.

Victory moved him into the world top 10.

Harrington’s move means David Toms slipped to 10th after Chris DiMarco also moved ahead of the American, while the rest of the top 10 is unchanged with number one Tiger Woods out in front.

Vijay Singh and Ernie Els are second and third.
