Khan maintains Mallorca lead
Simon Khan maintained his three-shot lead when the delayed second round of the Mallorca Classic was completed this morning.
Twenty four players returned to Pula Golf Club to finish their rounds due to the knock-on effect of Thursday’s thunderstorms and none were able to challenge the leaders.
That kept Khan on course for a second win of the season although pre-tournament favourite Sergio Garcia leads the chasing pack, sharing second place on seven under with fellow Spaniard Carlos Rodiles and Sweden’s Fredrik Andersson.
The 32-year-old had made a total of nine visits to the European Tour qualifying school and taken a variety of jobs, from taxi driving to roofing and pipe fitting, to fund his golf before his shock triumph in the Wales Open in June.
Garcia would have been in outright second but for a bogey on the final hole in fading light yesterday evening but is well placed to claim his first victory on home soil since the 2002 Spanish Open.
