Tiger Woods went through the pain barrier to begin his defence of the American Express World Championship at Mount Juliet in County Kilkenny today – and amazingly birdied the first two holes.

Doubtful before the start because of a problem between his shoulder blades, Woods was clearly still in trouble as he warmed up.
