McDowell moves to top of leaderboard

Ireland's Graeme McDowell, who blew the German Masters from five clear with 17 to play, moved to six under and a one-stroke lead in the Heritage today.

McDowell dropped a shot early on but returned with a series of birdies to move clear.

Meanwhile it has not been such good news for Colin Montgomerie. He had bogeys on the 14th and 16th and at three over par was in danger of crashing out at halfway - as he did in Cologne two weeks ago.

Ryder Cup team-mate David Howell resumed with a birdie and stood two under after six holes, but playing partner Retief Goosen, the reigning US Open champion, double-bogeyed the 14th and dropped to level par.

Goosen is still recovering from the cracked pelvis suffered in a jet-ski accident in Barbados in July.
