Mickelson and Toms recover point
Phil Mickelson and David Toms have beaten Thomas Levet and Miguel Angel Jiminez in the second of the foursomes matches at the Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills today.
Mickelson was left out of the fourballs this morning after a poor opening day, but recovered with Toms to win 4 and 3.
One down after four, birdies on the next two holes put the Americans in front and after halving the next five holes, another brace of birdies on the 12th and 13th proved decisive.
Levet was left to rue two short missed putts for par on the eighth and ninth which would have put the Europeans in front at the turn, and Mickelson – dropped from the morning fourballs – was able to celebrate his first win in 10 Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup matches.
Earlier Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood beat Chris DiMarco and Jay Haas 5 and 4. The score now stands at 9-5 to Europe with two points still to play for today.
In the last two matches, the pairings of Sergio Garcia/Luke Donald and the Irish pair of Paul McGinley/Padraig Harrington both enjoy 3 hole leads in their respective matches.
