Europe win junior Ryder Cup

Europe crushed USA 8 1/2-3 1/2 to lift the Junior Ryder Cup at Westfield Group Country Club, Ohio.

The Europeans, leading 4 1/2-1 1/2 after Saturday’s fourballs, won the first three matches in the second and final day of match play, with the boy-girl pairs of Lluis Garcia del Moral and Carlota Ciganda, Zach Gould and Belen Mozo, and Oliver Fisher and Florentyna Parker winning their fourballs.

Europe won their eighth and final point in the last match through Dominic Angkawidjaja and Valerie Sternebeck.

“Our team worked as hard as I wanted them to. They really have played unbelievably well,” European junior captain Andy Ingram told www.pga.com.

Europe had 65 birdies compared to the USA’s 46 birdies, but USA captain Will Mann said: “We are happy with the way we played. I am really proud of our team.”

In the inaugural Junior Ryder Cup Matches in 2002 at Ireland's K-Club, Europe won 9 1/2-2 1/2.
