Coulter triumphs at Portrush

Trevor Coulter's fairytale continued at Royal Portrush as he clinched the Magners North of Ireland Amateur Open Championship title with a one hole win over Ulster player Rory Leonard.

In a long, drawn out decider, the Massereene scratch player ground out a shock win after producing previous shock results throughout the week. He was three up after seven holes against Leonard but let the advantage slip be two down on the 15th tee.

Leonard drove into bushes off the 15th tee and finally conceded that hole and it was all square when he missed an six-footer for a half at 17.

Both were over the green in three at the par four 18th but Coulter played a neat putt to three feet and holed for bogey - Leonard rolled his recovery 12 feet past and left the putt on the lip.

In the semi-finals, Coulter defeated international Richard Kilpatrick at the 19th with birdie three while Leonard dismissed international Mark Campbell by 2&1.
