Home victory for Remesy
Jean-Francois Remesy today became the first home winner of the French Open for 35 years at Le Golf National near Paris.
With a closing 72 the 40-year-old won by a massive seven strokes from Australian left-handers Nick O’Hern and Richard Green – and then received the trophy from 1969 champion Jean Garaialde.
Three clear overnight, Remesy resumed by driving into water and double-bogeyed.
He turned only one shot ahead of Green, but the Australian left-hander was in a lake himself on the 10th, also bogeyed the 13th and 14th and closed with a double bogey six of his own.
