Toms and Howell make early progress

Americans David Toms and Charles Howell showed what was possible when they went to the turn in three-under 32 early in the third round of the US Open at Shinnecock Hills today.

With no significant wind again for those who had only just survived the halfway cut, the pair moved from five over par to two over and into a tie for 23rd place from 57th.
