Singh scoops Euro honour
Vijay Singh has been named the European Tour’s Golfer of the Month for April after winning back-to-back titles on the US Tour.
The Fijian, who is an honorary member of the European Tour, captured the Shell Houston Open and the HP Classic of New Orleans, where a stunning back nine of 29 in a final round 63 left him one ahead of Masters champion Phil Mickelson and Joe Ogilvie.
In the process, Singh moved to the top of the US Tour money list he won last season and significantly closed the gap on Tiger Woods at the top of the world rankings. He has a chance to become No 1 for the first time in the next few weeks.
Other players considered for the award included Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell, Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez, Frenchman Christian Cevaer and , who won the Italian, Portuguese, Seville, Spanish Open titles respectively.
