Campbell takes advantage of Appleby collapse
Chad Campbell carded a six-under-par 66 to overcome a four-shot deficit and win by six strokes at the Bay Hill Invitational in Florida.
Campbell finished on 18 under at 270 – well clear of third-round leader Stuart Appleby who carded a disastrous 76.
The 29-year-old was still four strokes behind Appleby with 12 holes to play but staged a stunning fightback to win as the Australian collapsed.
Tiger Woods, who was looking for a record fifth straight victory in this tournament, shot a 73 and finished in a tie for 46th – his worst finish in five years on the Tour.
John Daly looked set to finish third but fell away spectacularly on the final four holes with a double-bogey, eagle, bogey, triple-bogey finish and ended up in a tie for 10th.
Scott Verplank and Australian Adam Scott eventually tied for third, one shot ahead of Jerry Kelly.
Ireland’s Darren Clarke shot a final round of 72 to finish in a tie for sixth alongside Zach Johnson, Stephen Ames and halfway leader Shigeki Maruyama.
