Ricky Barnes brushed aside early fears over disqualification to surge up the leaderboard and into contention for his first professional title at the ANZ Championship today.

The 2002 US Amateur champion finished the day just nine points off the lead, held again by England's Steve Webster, after being woken to the news that he was under investigation for allegedly improving his line during yesterday’s second round.
