Tiger gets engaged to Swedish girlfriend

Tiger Woods and his Swedish girlfriend Elin Nordegren became engaged during a South African safari, it was reported today.

Swedish newspaper Expressen said Nordegren’s father confirmed the engagement.

“She called this morning and was incredibly happy,” said Thomas Nordegren, a correspondent for Swedish Radio in Washington.

“I only spoke shortly with them on the telephone but they were happy and I congratulated them.”

South African radio said Woods popped the question at the luxury Shamwari game park, where the couple went to relax after the President’s Cup tournament at Fancourt, which finished on Sunday.

It said the couple spent the night under the stars in sleeping bags and prepared their own food.

Expressen said the date and location of the wedding were not disclosed, but that it was likely to take place in Sweden.

Woods and Nordegren, a blonde model, have been dating for nearly two years.

They met when she was working in Florida as a nanny to the children of Swedish professional golfer Jesper Parnevik.
