Lee Westwood grabbed two eagles and four birdies in another superb display at the Seve Trophy in Spain today.

Westwood and David Howell beat Thomas Bjorn and Sergio Garcia by a convincing five-and-three margin as Britain & Ireland stretched their two-point overnight lead over Continental Europe at El Saler.

The match was finished in style with Westwood making an 18-foot eagle putt on the long 15th, having earlier hit a 243-yard three-iron to two feet on the 515-yard fifth. He and Howell were 11 under par when they shook hands.

Justin Rose and Ian Poulter led Seve Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal by four with eight to play, but the rest of Ballesteros’ side were going much better.

Alex Cejka and Raphael Jacquelin led Colin Montgomerie and Paul Lawrie by two with three to go, and Swedes Fredrik Jacobson and Niclas Fasth were two up after 11 on Padraig Harrington and Phillip Price, while Miguel Angel Jimenez and Ignacio Garrido were level with Brian Davis and Paul Casey after 13.
