Dad-to-be Harrington ready for quick dash

Padraig Harrington may well go into next month’s US PGA Championship without a single practice round.

The Dubliner's wife Caroline is due to give birth to their first child the day after the event but because she might go into labour early Harrington says he might not fly to Rochester, New York, until the day before the start.

“We’ve discussed it and I’ll basically go out with the same attitude as Nick (Faldo) had last week,” said Harrington.

“I want to play and if I’m playing great then I’ll stay. But if not then it’s only an overnight flight for me to get back.”

The only knowledge Harrington has of the Oak Hill course comes from watching the 1995 Ryder Cup.

“I remember the last three holes of Philip Walton’s match and David Gilford trying to chip and putt at the last. Maybe I should get the video.”
