Greg Norman was hoping to capitalise on his magical memories of Royal St George’s today to conjure up more Open glory.

The 48-year-old Aussie used the knowledge acquired in his triumph at Sandwich a decade ago to fashion a two-under-par round of 69 yesterday which left him level in second place with America’s Davis Love just one behind overnight leader Hennie Otto of South Africa.
