Mickelson moves up a gear

Phil Mickelson stepped up his preparations for next week’s Open Championship with a blistering start to the third round of the £2.2m (€3.18m) Scottish Open this morning.

Mickelson looked set for an early trip to Sandwich when he completed an opening 76 at 9:30pm on Thursday, and began his second round less than 11 hours later with a bogey on his second hole to lie six over par.
