Owen wins the British Masters
England’s Greg Owen won the Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters at the Forest of Arden today – after no fewer than 21 top-10 finishes on the European tour without a victory.
The 31-year-old from Mansfield, in his 158th event, captured his first title by a three-stroke margin, shooting a closing 71 to finish on the 14 under par mark of 274.
It earned him £250,000, while runners-up Ian Poulter and Frenchman Christian Cevaer took home £130,280 each.
Poulter, also runner-up last year and winner of the Wales Open last week, was trying to become the first man in tour history to win after surviving the halfway cut with nothing to spare.
Meanwhile, Argentina’s Jorge Berendt won a £26,000 Jaguar for being nearest-the-pin on the 211-yard 18th. His shot finished 33 inches from the hole.
