Retief sits pretty put poor round for Padraig

European number one Retief Goosen moved to within one shot of the lead at The Memorial Tournament in Ohio with a second round 67 last night.

The South African had birdies at the third and fourth holes but a bogey at the par-three eighth meant he covered the front nine in only 35.

However, successive birdies at 10, 11 and 12 were followed by another at the 15th as he closed five-under for the day and 10 under for the tournament, one behind leader American Kenny Perry.

But two bogeys and a double-bogey spoiled Irishman Padraig Harrington’s second round as he could shoot only a 71, with a run of three birdies on three, four and five and two more on 14 and 16 – either side of that shocking seven on the 503-yard par five – saving his round.

World number one Tiger Woods remains in contention after a one-under-par 71 today left him six under after two rounds.

Jesper Parnevik (three under for the tournament), Jose Maria Olazabal (two under), Ernie Els (one under) all made the cut after respective rounds of 71, 69 and 70 but fellow European Bernhard Langer’s 75 today means he will have the weekend off after finishing the second round at three over.
