Three out in front at Senior Open

Jeff van Wagenen, Gary Wintz and Delroy Cambridge all recorded four-under-par rounds of 68 to move into a share of the lead after the first round of the AIB Irish Seniors Open at Adare Manor in Co Limerick.

The two Americans and their Jamaican rival go into the second round a single shot ahead of Australians David Good, Brian Jones and Noel Ratcliffe.

Defending champion Seiji Ebihara, shared seventh place on two-under-par 70 alongside England’s David Creamer, Italy’s Alberto Croce and Americans Steve Stull and Alan Tapie.

Van Wagenen said: “I played pretty well out there today. I didn’t miss a fairway and that’s the secret to scoring out here. You have to hit your drives into the right place. That’s essential because, if you don’t, you’re often left with no shot into the green.”
