While organisers of next week’s Dubai Desert Classic waited to hear from the camps of both Tiger Woods and Ernie Els – there were rumours that both would be pulling out – Ryder Cup hero Paul McGinley is already in the United Arab Emirates.
“I feel very secure here, so I had no hesitation about flying my family over,” said McGinley. “I’ve only missed one Desert Classic since 1992 so I know Dubai very well.”
The clash between world number one Woods and number two Els has given the tournament added appeal this year, but the possibility of war in the region has had both stars considering the situation.
A decision from the two is expected in the next few days.
