Ernie Els’ nearest challengers conceded defeat with one round to play after the record-breaking South African continued his inexorable march towards victory at the Johnnie Walker Classic on Saturday.

Els was inspirational as he fired his second 64 of the tournament, broke the European Tour record for the lowest 54-hole aggregate ever registered and secured an almost impenetrable nine-shot lead heading into the final round.
